Projects
Ongoing service projects founded by our club:
All Things Are Possible: Semi-monthly self-esteem workshops for 6th grade girls in the Boise Public School system conducted by Soroptimist members during the school year. It is a program designed to promote self-esteem to area sixth grade girls, covering various topics such as journalizing, goal setting and community service.
Oldsters Project: Oldsters Mission Statement: Through commitment to service, our mission is to be a liaison between the community and seniors in need, to provide a support network which distributes community contributions.
A yearly, ongoing Holiday
tradition where the Boise club collects and publishes a gift "wish list" from
residents of Boise's nursing homes. Soroptimist
coordinates community support in providing Holiday gifts to seniors who would
otherwise not receive needed items.
Foster Children
Holiday Project and Special Needs Fund:
A yearly
Holiday tradition where the Boise club collects and publishes a gift "wish
list" from Health & Welfare for local foster children. Soroptimist
coordinates community support in providing Holiday gifts for the foster
children who would
otherwise not receive needed items.
Our club also contributes to a number of local organizations, including the following:
Other Projects:
International Goodwill & Understanding: Members correspond with our friendship links and support each other's projects. Our two friendship links are: Bingley, England Lund, Sweden
The club also participates in Region, Federation and International projects.
International Projects:
2007-2011 Project Sierra: a Family and a Future: The project will support women caring for children in extreme poverty and provide a caring secure family home for children who are alone or at risk of abandonment. This is the quadrennial project.
December 10th Appeal: The 2009 project is Hopes and Dreams for Everyone. To prevent human trafficking from Moldova by providing life-skill education and sustainable living conditions for vulnerable children, Soroptimist International is partnering with the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the leading inter-governmental migration organization working in Moldova since 2001 and the Child Rights Information Center (CRIC) Moldova (an NGO) whose mission is to contribute to the implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child in Moldova. The aim is to approach these vulnerable groups of children by giving them knowledge about the danger of trafficking, a possibility for education, a place to live, work possibilities, and an economy that makes them able to maintain a decent way of living in familiar surroundings. Our wish is to create “role models”, which will appear as good prototypes to their fellow sisters in their local environment, and in this way create positive vibrations.
